Biography
Karen von Merveldt-Guevara, MD (Germany), graduated from Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen/Nuremberg in Bavaria, Germany in 1996. Today she works as a Health Consultant remotely from Sedona, AZ with patients world-wide, as well as from Mākaha, HI on Oʻahu to be able to accommodate family matters.
The main scope of her practice covers biochemical, physiological, environmental and genetic aspects of her patientsʻ health challenges. Her research is based on biochemical lab evaluations (blood, hair, and urine), genetic data to study the functional and inborn problems her patients present with, and all other diagnostic tests her patientsʻ main medical providers contribute.
Her interest in autism spectrum, neurodegenerative and other chronic disorders, and the search for solutions to heal them lead her to study the behavior of metals and minerals in Man. Research and protocols going back to the early 1900s, like Max Gerson’s therapeutic approach to Healing Cancer, Weston Price’s research on nutrition and physical degeneration, and later the work of orthomolecular pioneers like Abram Hoffer and Carl Pfeiffer, and the experience she gained in her own practice, informed and guided her in the development of supplement strategies. The more recent and ever evolving understanding of functional genomics opened yet another door for her to better understand the details of a patientʻs “terrain” and their specific needs for supplementation to override genetic challenges when and where possible.
Karen von Merveldt-Guevara is an International Member of the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM), International Society for Orthomolecular Medicine (ISOM), and Member of the International College of Integrative Medicine (ICIM). As Fellow and Faculty, a teaching member, she has embraced the Medical Academy of Pediatrics and Special Needs (MAPS) since 2019 as a place to reach out to the integrative medical community to teach innovative concepts of healing in orthomolecular medicine.
