The Orthomolecular perspective is that food alone is not enough, and nutrient supplementation is often, if not always, required. This lecture will critically assess the validity of this hypothesis, by examining the composition of various diets, the nutrient amounts in foods, and other factors that influence nutrient levels in the body. Key areas of exploration will include the nutrient compositions of common healthy diets, various national food guides, institutional recommendations, and ancestral diets.
