Case Report: Lysine/Ascorbate-Related Amelioration of Angina Pectoris

Pauling, L.

The article presents a case where high doses of L-lysine and vitamin C (ascorbate) supplementation led to significant improvement in a patient with severe coronary artery disease experiencing effort angina despite medication and multiple bypass surgeries. The outcome supports the hypothesis that lipoprotein(a) contributes to atherosclerosis and that its effects can be mitigated by these supplements.

Discussed in the article:

  • The hypothesis that lipoprotein(a) plays a role in thrombotic atherosclerosis and the potential of L-lysine and ascorbate supplementation to reduce Lp(a) deposition in arterial walls.
  • Observations suggesting that high-dose L-lysine and ascorbate can alleviate angina symptoms.

Supplementation:

  • L-lysine: 5 grams per day
  • Vitamin C (ascorbate): 6 grams per day
  • multivitamin, CoQ10, vitamin A and E, B-complex, lecithin, and niacin

“He could now walk the same two miles and do yard work without angina pain and wrote, “the effect of the lysine borders on the miraculous.”
