Sugar is a major part of modern diets. As the amount of sugar we consume has increased, our health has deteriorated.
In this podcast, Dr. Burford-Mason explains some of the negative effects of added sugar, including higher blood pressure, weight gain and generalized inflammation. She describes how the rapid absorption of sugar into the bloodstream causes a brief energy boost, followed by a crash, and how this causes cravings for more sugary foods, which can affect concentration and trigger anxiety. Excessive sugar can also lead to a number of health problems, including obesity, diabetes, liver and kidney damage, and increased risk for heart disease and stroke.
