Dr. Rogers Prize Lecture
Presenter: Bonnie J. Kaplan, PhD

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of mental resilience. Although many social variables and self-help practices can protect people from the stress of this current situation (networks of family and friends, online social events, exercise, meditation), there is also definitive research showing that enhanced nutrient intake in times of crisis can improve resilience and reduce mental health problems. We can make sense of this fact by gaining familiarity with fight-flight demands, the Triage Theory, and the role of nutrients in brain metabolism. This talk will review the important role of enhanced nutrition for improving resilience in populations under stress.
