The International Society for Orthomolecular Medicine (ISOM) was founded in 1994 in Vancouver, Canada to serve as a unifying organization for the existing Orthomolecular Medicine societies and to integrate our efforts in communication, education and advocacy.

The concept of ISOM evolved from a column entitled ‘Around the World,’ first published in the Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine in 1988, which highlighted the work of international colleagues who were advancing orthomolecular education. The growing interest in orthomolecular medicine lead to the development of international member societies, including in Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, Switzerland, and the USA. Today there are member societies operating in more than 20 countries, and on all continents except Antartica.

To alleviate preventable suffering by educating people on the roles of nutrients in health and disease.

Mission

Increase the use of orthomolecular medicine by health care professionals and the public, through orthomolecular advocacy and the provision of educational resources; To facilitate development and collaboration between orthomolecular interest groups and health care professionals to serve the public.
