About the Webinar Series
Presenter: Aileen Burford-Mason PhD
We are excited to announce the Spring Series of The New Nutrition webinars, which will kick off this season as part of our ongoing commitment to improving health through optimal nutrition. The New Nutrition, which has been running each Spring and Fall since 2003, is an up-to-date exploration of the critical role diet and supplements play in maintaining the health of our bodies and brains.
Present-day diets often fail to provide enough of the essential nutrients—fats, proteins, vitamins, and minerals—needed for peak performance. The New Nutrition examines how the body relies on these nutrients to carry out vital functions, such as converting food into energy, regulating blood pressure, promoting restful sleep, and preventing chronic conditions like memory loss and age-related bone deterioration.
The webinars are designed to be useful to a broad audience. The series breaks down complex nutritional science into practical, easy-to-understand information, offering actionable advice on optimizing diet and supplements for better health. Webinar content is rooted in the latest scientific research, and will appeal to both laypersons and health professionals seeking timely, evidence-based insights into the rapidly evolving field of nutrition.
Webinar 1 – Wednesday March 5, 2025
Fighting Fatigue: Is your diet making you tired?
Poor blood sugar control and a lack of key essential vitamins and minerals can limit our supply of energy and cause fatigue. B vitamins, magnesium, and other nutrients play key roles in maintaining energy. This webinar will discuss simple dietary changes and the judicious use of nutritional supplements that can help boost energy and fight fatigue.
Webinar 2 – Wednesday March 12, 2025
A Good Night’s Sleep
Various studies worldwide have shown the prevalence of insomnia to be between 10 and 30% of the population, with some reporting incidences as high as 50%–60%. As doctors have become more reluctant to prescribe sleeping pills because of their potential for negative side effects, interest has grown in non-pharmaceutical approaches to dealing with insomnia. In this webinar, we explore the vital connection between nutrition and sleep, and how diet influences sleep quality and quantity. Key nutrients and natural health supplements that promote better sleep health are discussed.
Webinar 3 – Wednesday March 19, 2025
Preventing Osteoporosis: Diet and supplements for healthy bones
This webinar focuses on the role of nutrition in preventing osteoporosis, emphasizing the importance of a balanced intake of essential nutrients beyond just calcium and vitamin D. It covers the roles of magnesium, vitamin K2, and other trace minerals, as well as the critical role of adequate protein intake in supporting bone strength and bone density. The session highlights how these nutrients work together and provides a holistic approach to preventing the development and progression of osteoporosis through dietary and lifestyle changes.
Webinar 4 – Wednesday March 26, 2025
Stress and Nutrition
This webinar explores the relationship between diet and the body’s stress response. Stress activates the release of hormones like adrenaline and cortisol, which, if sustained, can lead to negative health effects. Nutrient-rich foods—especially those high in antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamins B and C—can help modulate this response and support the nervous system. Conversely, poor dietary choices can exacerbate stress. The concept of “adrenal fatigue”—the idea that prolonged stress can overwhelm the adrenal glands and lead to symptoms like fatigue, anxiety, and difficulty concentrating—will be discussed.
Webinar start times: 5:00pm PST / 8:00pm EST
